Year One Blog 18.1.2017

We are so proud of all the children’s achievements over the past term in Year one. All the children are making fantastic progress and are now a lot more focused on their learning. We were so proud of the children in the Nativity and I hope you all agree that they did a fantastic job.

This half term we will be looking at the value of ‘Courage’. As a class we have already come up with the phrase ‘Step Up!’ This the children believe is what we should do when facing new challenges. Over the coming weeks we will be doing a lot of work related to this value as well as the story of ‘Creation’.

Our topic for this half term will focus on ‘Traditional Tales. We will be starting with ‘The Three Pigs’. For homework we would like the children to create a model house using the materials the three pigs used and  for them to write about how they made it.

Please can I remind you that reading books will be changed on a Monday, Wednesday and a Friday. Children need to put  books and reading records in the green box outside the classroom on these days so we can change them, if they are left in rucksacks we do not have time to go through these bags to collect them.

You child may have told you that we will soon be starting Forest School, we had the official blessing by Reverend Anne today and are hoping to start sessions in the next week or two. We will send out more information to you about what your child will need to wear.

Finally we would like to share with you two Forest School Prayers that were written by Fenton and Mae. All the children wrote a Prayer for our forest school blessing today, but these two were read as part of the ceremony.

‘Dear God, Thank you for the rusty logs, and the swishy grass. Amen’ (Fenton)

‘Dear God, Thank you for the soft snow that you can make snow men out of. Amen’ (Mae)
