We have had a great couple of weeks in Year 5. The children are now adapting to life in their new year group. It was lovely to meet so many of you at our meet the teacher session last week. Just a little reminder that our second meet the teacher session will be on Wednesday night (3.10.2018) between 6:30 and 7:30pm.
Our English work has focused on writing diary entries for a man stuck on Mars. This is linked to the classroom addition of the book ‘The Martian’ (please be aware this is an adapted version of the book for KS2). We have also started our class reader ‘Northern Lights’ written by Philip Pullman.
In Maths we have focused on place value, and this week decimals. We have all gained a greater understanding of this and we are now focusing on using this knowledge to solve number problems.
I would appreciate if you make sure that you are still reading with your child at home. This is a valuable time where you can discuss their understanding of the text. We expect your child to read four times a week at home and this to be recorded in their reading records.
