Happy New Year

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Reception class,

Happy New Year to you all. I hope you have enjoyed the holiday break and that your children are rested, ready and raring to learn.

A huge thank you to all for the kind and thoughtful gifts of flowers, chocolates, cards, decorations and a very generous gift voucher. I am overwhelmed by your kindness.

This term our focus will be on Traditional Tales such as The Three Bears, The Gingerbread Man etc. In math we will begin looking more closely at the teen numbers and what ‘teen’ means. In phonics we will continue to learn more digraphs and trigraphs along with a few more tricky words which cannot be sounded out phonetically. Here is a short list of the words your children need to recognise by sight.

he, she, we, me, be, was, they, said, my, you, are, her, all

If your child is now confidently blending three sounds it would also help with their fluency to be able to recognise common high frequency words by sight now too. You can google these anytime by searching Letters and Sounds high frequency words for phase 2 and phase 3. Remember little and often is most helpful.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday.

Mrs Lewis
