This week in Year 3 we have started our new topic of ‘Explosive Earth’, where we will be looking at various natural disasters of the world we live in.
To kick off the topic the children began by looking at volcanoes and their devastating effects. To replicate this (on a MUCH smaller scale) we had a go at creating our own lemon volcanoes. Some of the scientific terminology the children were using was fantastic!
In literacy we have started our new book ‘The Firework Makers Daughter’. The book contains some tricky words and themes but the children are picking these up very well. I look forward to reading some of the work they produce on the text over the next few weeks.
I have sent home guidance for this weeks homework in their diaries. The task is to complete a poster advising people of what to do if a volcano erupts near them. There are a list of useful websites to help with this on the letter. Please could this be returned to school by next Thursday so that the children can share these with the class. I would like to display them around the classroom so please keep them loose as opposed to sticking them in.
Finally, next week I have organised for us to have a forest school session. This will be on Tuesday. Could the children please bring old clothes in a bag that they can change into at school. Coats, gloves, scarves and hats are recommended.
Have a restful weekend,
