Spring Term in Reception will continue to be both exciting and motivating. We will be continuing to develop our skills in all the different areas of learning using practical investigations, purposeful play and working on representing this using our writing and phonics.
In Literacy, we will be finding out about the world of Traditional Tales as we focus on developing our writing and storytelling skills. Some of tales we will be looking at are; ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and ‘The Gingerbread Man’. Across these stories we will be exploring the world of nursery rhymes in both traditional and modern novels as well as comparing characters and setting within all of them. Phonics and writing are a big focus for our whole school approach and we will be reinforcing this in Early Years by using our phonic understanding to blend and segment words in our reading and writing.
Within our maths lessons, we will continue to practise our number skills across a range of different areas such as; sharing, counting, estimating, 1 more and 1 less and recognising the symbols for addition, subtraction and equals. We will also be introducing the children to recording data by representing amounts using marks and allowing the children to give meanings to them.
As well as number, we will develop our understanding of shape, space and measure by introducing the children to both time and money. We aim to get the children familiar with recognising money and verbalising this using every day recognition. The children will also be given opportunities to count and play with real money.
‘Understanding the World’, will focus on changes over time and incorporate similarities and differences. We will explore this in our Forest School sessions on a Friday.
We thank you for your continued support and we all very much value working with you to support and develop your children.
