16.6.20 Greetings Year 5!

I hope you had a good start to the week. As usual, I have added a Maths and English task for today. If you’re after other activities, have a look at the end of this post. Have any of you had a go at the virtual pentathlon, or answering Mrs Thomas’s questions about Victorian schools?

I’ve also added the latest Science magazine to the Purple Mash blog. The latest issue is all about coding. I used to love making up my own secret codes when I was your age! I wonder if you’d enjoy that too!

Ideas for the day:

Maths – Read and interpret line graphs

English – Today you will be looking at an illustration from the story of Sinbad the Sailor and looking at the difference between phrases and clauses. The work for the week is in the link below. Look at day 2 for today’s lesson.

Other possible activities for the week:

PE – The current situation has meant that all the usual school sports activities and events have been cancelled. However, Hertfordshire are running some ‘Virtual School Games’ for you to get involved in! Have a look at the introduction below.

The first event is the ‘Virtual Pentathlon’. I have added a link for the instructions and results sheet. It would be great if we could get involved. Email me your results (year5@standrews323.herts.sch.uk) to me by Friday 19th so they can be sent off.

History – Mrs Thomas has added a blog post with some questions/research that you could do about Victorian Schools.

Science – Explore coding by looking at the latest Science magazine (link on Purple Mash blog)

Enjoy!
