SEND

St Andrew’s follows the Hertfordshire approach to SEND, which ensures that all maintained schools provide a consistent, inclusive and high‑quality offer for pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). We work closely with the Local Authority so that every child, regardless of their level of need, can make strong progress and participate fully in school life. Wherever possible, and where families wish it, pupils with SEND are supported to thrive within a mainstream setting.

Our SEND Information Report explains how we identify, assess and support children with SEND, and how we implement the Graduated Response (Assess-Plan-Do-Review) in line with the SEND Code of Practice.

At St Andrew’s, we value our strong partnership with parents and carers. If you have concerns about your child’s progress, development or wellbeing, your first point of contact is always the class teacher, who will work closely with the school’s Special Educational Needs Co‑ordinator (SENCo), Mrs Bailey. Together, they will consider whether your child’s needs can be met through Ordinarily Available Provision or whether additional support is required.

We monitor the progress of all pupils regularly through a combination of formal assessments, classroom observation and ongoing teacher feedback. Because we know our children well, we respond quickly when a child is not making expected progress or when additional needs emerge. This may involve adapting teaching, providing targeted interventions, seeking pupil voice or consulting with external professionals as part of our commitment to early identification and effective support.
